Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 inch
Samsung continues the GALAXY Tab line, which started with the 7 inch GALAXY Tab, with the announcement of the 8.9 inch GALAXY Tab tablet PC. Samsung originally announced, several months ago, that they would be releasing various sized tablet PC devices which also includes a 10.1 inch device. The 8.9 inch Galaxy Tab is the thinnest tablet PC released to date measuring .34 inches (8.6mm), and the lightest at 1 lb (460 grams). Another nice feature is the 1280 x 800 resolution on a 8.9 inch display, which will be an amazing picture with a high resolution on a smaller screen.
The GALAXY Tab 8.9 release date is still set for “early summer, 2011″ and prices are rumored to be $469 for the 16MB; and $569 for the 32MB WI-FI models. The 10.1 inch version is slated for a June 8th release date, so we are hoping the 8.9 inch device will not be too far behind.
The GALAXY Tab 8.9 includes Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, which is a layer over the Android™ 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform, which offers better multi-tasking and enhanced user interaction and navigation. Samsung’s TouchWiz interface allows the user to more customize their home screen with photos, bookmarks to favorite websites and social network sites. Also included it a application tray of frequently used apps such as music player, calendar, and task manager.
If Samsung will update the Galaxy Tab 7 with TouchWiz and Android 3.0, that would be a great upgrade to match their other devices. When all is said and done, Samsung will have 7, 8.9 and 10.1 inch tablet PC devices. This is contrary to the Apple philosophy of one size fits all. But then the rest of the computing industry is all about giving people options, where Apple is all about controlling and limiting options. Feature for feature, this device whips iPad’s butt.
