ASUS PadFone – Phone, Tablet, Keyboard

ASUS PadPhone

Update 5/14/2012:  ASUS is giving us more information about the PadFone with the release of this video.  Still no general release date, however, it is rumored to be coming in the next few weeks.  Check out this video for more information and a demonstration of the PadFone:

Update 4/5/2012:  ASUS announced that the PadFone will be released for sale in Taiwan on April 20, 2012.  Presale orders are being accepted now at a price of $980 for the complete set of Phone, Tablet, and Keyboard.  The phone can be purchased separately for $680, and the Phone and Tablet combination sells for $850.

A release date for the US has not been announced yet.  ASUS does not currently have a relationship with any wireless carriers in the US, so there is a chance the US will not see this product released.

ASUS, continuing their innovative approach to tablet design, has announced the extensively rumored PadFone. This is the first of its kind and attempts provide a solution for the ultimate portable user.

The phone is the main device, it has the processing power, memory, storage, etc. Slide the phone into the slot on the back of the tablet, and you now have everything that was in the phone on a 10.1 inch display. Slide the tablet onto the keyboard dock, and now you have a laptop. All of it running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Most of us have both a cell phone, and a tablet PC.  However, it is not easy to use both at the same time.  Plus, the constant syncing of data between the devices is a pain in the neck.  Save money by buying a single device.

ASUS has lead the tablet manufacturers with their innovation of the Transformer tablet, then further pressured the competition with the release of the Transformer Prime.  This product will, for sure, cause the competition to rethink their approach to the standard template tablet design.  But, ASUS also has many issues with the Transformer Prime with the GPS, and other issues.  So hopefully, they have been more thorough with their due diligence testing with this device.

Here are some key features:

  • Battery life: slide the phone into the tablet with the attached keyboard dock and gain 9 times longer battery life, plus the ASUS PadPhonephone’s battery will charge from the tablet’s “larger battery”.
  • No more syncing multiple devices, all your data is stored in a single location.
  • 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor for very fast performance on both the phone and tablet
  • The PadFone Stylus doubles as a headset, plus if you leave the stylus behind, both the stylus and phone will vibrate and beep to let you know you’re missing something.
